My ‘Australian Rent-Seeker of the Year Award 2023‘ goes to Gina Rinehart.

Like many Australians, Gina Rinehart does much good work. However, unlike other ‘going concerns’ which are required to pay 50% of their earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) as rent, Hancock Prospecting doesn’t pay its 50%, only a relatively minimal amount in royalties.

Nor, of course, do our American company friends that also mine Australian assets. However, my ‘Rent-Seeker of the Year‘ is an award to a leading Australian in this area.
