‘ECONOMICS’

More than any other discipline, neoclassical economics has lent itself to ‘academese’. The study has developed in such a way as to bury certain fundamentals amidst its academic prose, complex economic models, abstract nouns, static verbs and sophisticated jargon.

‘Economics’ has acted to obscure such social norms as the human right to cheap and easy access to a home and to the abolition of poverty and servility. But these are normative considerations, and economics must not be values-based.

Therefore, the study has come to accommodate and serve those who dominate and speculate. Education, science and the media have backpedalled to acquiesce entirely to this ‘economics’.

That’s a pity ……….. but maybe that’s a values-based statement?
